Finding Balance: Digital Tools Without Digital Damage
Mar 13, 2025Why should we care about having digital boundaries and using technology mindfully? 🤔
OH GOD, SO MANY REASONS.
I don’t know about you, but I have been in awe at the amount of emerging research (both that I pursue and more and more mainstream-prevalent) about how addictive and destructive our use of technology is becoming - on our bodies, minds; spirits.
It made total sense to me that as these platforms consume more of our attention, our ability to focus deeply would decrease, and rifts and contention would form in our close relationships (having experienced both of these personally).
What really struck a chord though, was learning that amongst all kinds of other negative effects, these new habits are actually PHYSICALLY changing our beautiful brains, and decreasing our ability to FORM NEW MEMORIES. 🤯
Yikes.
Now the real trick comes when you factor in that business owners almost always need to utilize digital tools and platforms to help grow their businesses and communicate with clients.
While the effects of no or poor digital boundaries have exactly the same consequences on our brains (and lives, and real in-person connections) when we’re doing it for business… it’s just a WHOLE LOT EASIER to justify.
Uh oh.
So. How to walk this line? How can we leverage the incredible digital tools that exist to make life easier, increase communication and serve larger business goals and the world… without losing ourselves?
I'm honored to be speaking on this topic at next week's Wisdom Wednesday March 19 at 12PM PST hosted by the very cool The Anima Collective.
